On the radio Show “The Breakfast Club”, Rapper, Producer, Writer & Director Rapman spoke of his latest show’s origins.
The interviewer prefaces that in the Hollywood Reporter, the death of George Floyd is said to have been an inspiration for the popular Netflix Show “SUPACELL” that came out in summer 2024.
When asked, “Where did the concept of Supacell come from?” Rapman states:
It was 2020 when the pandemic just kicked in and George Floyd got murdered, obviously, as you know.
I know how it felt over here, obviously, but you weren't alone in that feeling.
In the UK and probably the rest of the world, we just felt like it's just one step too far now.
And a lot of people, like artists and creators, were going into central London to protest.
And I was like, is this the best way I can use my platform to make this, to uplift black people?
And I didn't know how long TV takes.
If I write this TV show now, it could probably be out by the end of the year so that's when I started writing.
